摘要：
Social knowledge and reality: contradictions in cognition and developments of modernity (by Vladimir Kultygin) reviews the 34th Congress of the International Institute of sociology (11 to 12 of July, 1999, Tel-Aviv) deliberations. After briefly describing IIS history, the author analyses the paper's presented to the Congress by some prominent sociologists of our time, including, i.a., S. Eisenstadt, A. Inkeles, A. Martinelli. The review centers at some unexpected consequences of the modernity in today's world, such as outlook for democracy, as well as the processes in global sociological community at the brink of the millenniums.
