The Industry-University Intellectual Property Paradox

The Bayh-Dole Act gives universities the right to license patents to industry with a portion of royalties given to the inventors as personal income, and the remainder is invested back into the university. Since its introduction, intellectual property (IP) has become an obsession with US universities. Issues between industries and universities also emerged. In turn, such issues have impeded working relationships between companies and universities. As a result, more companies are now sending work to foreign universities due to more flexible IP agreements.
