A simplified dynamic model for high-speed roller chains

摘要
A simplified method of determining tension in a roller chain link while it is engaged with a sprocket is demonstrated. Extending a previously developed quasi-static technique which assumes the chain links do not lose contact with the sprocket during rotation, some of the dynamic effects of constrained chain strands on the link tensions are presented. It is shown that at high speed a minimum tension is required to constrain the kinematic behaviour of the chain, and that the mass of the strands can affect the engaged chain load.
