Making reel to real contact: Film in the French culture course

This article describes an integrated approach to incorporating film into an advanced college-level culture course that covers France and the French-speaking world. Based on sample thematic units that explore three contexts of identity (etre francais et antillais; 1'experience immigree, and les deux rives: France et Algerie), the article discusses how film can be used in conjunction with other materials to provide a "reel to real" contact with multiple representations of cultural identity. Appendices include Comment parler d'un film, Termes cinematographigues, and suggestions for specific oral assignments.
