Phase relation and microwave dielectric properties of BaO-Sm2O3-TiO2 ceramics

Phase relation and microwave dielectric properties of nominal composition of (BaO)(x)-(Sm2O3)(y)-(TiO2)(1-x-y) ceramics were investigated with varying amount of Ba2+(0.16<x<0.20), Sm3+(0.0 5 <y<0.11) and Ti4+(0.70<1-x-y<0.77) ions. Samples were prepared using the conventional mixed oxide process. It was found that with increasing Sm3+, the relative permittivity increased, and the unloaded quality factor (Q) decreased. However, the temperature coefficient of resonant frequency (tau(f)) was not noticeably changed. The epsilon(r) values of the samples that were sintered at 1340degreesC were higher than those sintered at 1320degreesC and 1300degreesC, and the samples that had higher epsilon(r) values resulted in lower Q values. The tau(f) value was not dependent on the sintering temperature.
