Electron acceleration to GeV energy by an axicon Gaussian laser pulse in a preformed ion channel

摘要
Electron acceleration to GeV energy in a preformed ion channel by an axicon laser pulse is investigated. Due to a striking inherent symmetry and strong axial electric field of axicon laser pulse with radial Gaussian intensity profile; the electrons get accelerated effectively along the propagation direction. The electrostatic space charge field of preformed ion channel facilitates electrons to remain trapped and confined in the accelerating phase and owing to betatron resonance phenomenon, the electron's energy can be enhanced effectively up to GeV-level of energies. The existence of a preformed ion channel serves as an alternative to the external magnetic field for effective acceleration.
