摘要：

Diabetic kidney disease is a common complication of diabetes associated with an increased cardiovascular mortality and is the leading cause of end-stage renal disease. A heterogeneous set of pathological mechanisms drives the development and progression of diabetic kidney disease. A comprehensive diagnostic work-up and repeated reevaluation are needed since diabetic patients can suffer from other nephropathies with a clinical presentation similar to diabetic kidney disease. Screening, treatment of cardiovascular risk factors and the reduction of albuminuria, using renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and sodium-dependent glucose transporter 2 inhibitors are crucial in the management of diabetic kidney disease.
