Application of new EGA method to the reduction process in pyrometallurgy

摘要
The reduction kinetics of metal oxides with carbon has been studied by the gravimetric method. In the case of iron-manganese oxides, direct reduction to the metal phase seam to be difficult because of formation of carbide and volatilization. of metallic manganese. Then characteristics of carbothermic; reduction process of iron-manganese oxides were not clarified sufficiently. We succeeded in studying the kinetics of carbon reduction process by means of the new technique simultaneous measurement of EGA (evolved gas analysis) and HS (humidity sensor). Water vapor evolved by the reduction with hydrogen can be detected by HS. Other applications to hydrogen reduction processes for titanium oxides and molybdenum oxides were also earned out HS can be used as a humidity detector independently, or in combination with a gas detector such as TCD (thermal conductivity detector).
