Diagnosis and treatment of a feline meningioma

A 12-year old cat presented acute neurological signs. Initial examinations revealed that the lesion was localised in the cerebral cortex. Three meningiomas were found on tomodensitometic examination. The owner decided to opt for surgery because of rapid deterioration in the cat's general health and two of the three masses were surgically accessible. There has been no recurrence one year later. Meningiomas are the most common cerebral tumours in cats. After exeresis the average survival rate is between 12 and 27 months. Adjuvant treatment with radiotherapy is recommended in cases of incomplete removal or surgical inaccessibility of the tumour.
