FELINE HEARTWORM DISEASE - DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT

A 7-year-old, male Domestic Shorthair cat was presented for chronic intermittent vomiting of 1 month's duration. On physical examination, the cat was alert and responsive but tachypneic with slightly harsh lung sounds detected. After initial physical and histologic examination, a tentative diagnosis of pneumonitis secondary to feline heartworm disease was made. Adulticide therapy for heartworm infection disease was instituted. The patient continued to receive ivermectin for 22 months without complication.
