摘要：

The maximum likelihood method is normally regarded as the safest method for parameter estimation, We show that this method will give a bias in the often occurring situation where a spectrum of counts is fitted with a theoretical function, unless the fit function is very simple. The bias can become significant A hen the spectrum contains less than about 100 counts or when the fit interval is too short. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
