Evolution of the genus Chironomus (Diptera, Chironomidae).: 1.: Ancestral form and major lines of phylogenesis

A historical reconstruction of the ancestral form of the genus Chironomus was performed. The morphological, paleontological and paleoecological data and analysis of possible ways of developing cytocomplexes and sub-genera as well as of specific features of centrometric regions allow one to conclude that the hypothetic ancestral form of the genus Chironomus has larvae of satinarius type, arm combination AB.CD.EF.G (thummi complex), and centromeres combined into a chromocenter.
