Hydroelastic behavior of a floating circular plate advancing in waves

A boundary integral equation method is developed to predict the hydroelastic response of a mat-like floating circular plate advancing slowly in waves. The method of solution is based on applying Green's theorem and expanding the velocity potential in a perturbation series of forward speed. Retaining the leading-order terms in the forward speed, the boundary-value problem is reduced to two sets of integral equations which only contain the zero speed Green's function. Numerical results are presented for the typical plate geometry. It is shown that the forward speed effect on the hydroclastic response remains within 10% of zero speed case under severe wave condition if the speed is less than 5 knots.
