Upper limb tremor induced by peripheral nerve injury

Although there is debate about the causal relationship between peripheral trauma and the development of movement disorders,(1,2) tremor and other involuntary movements have been reported following lesions to both the central and the peripheral nervous system.(3-5) Arguments against the existence of "peripherally induced" movement disorders are the possibilities of chance occurrence and psychological reasons. According to the proposed diagnostic criteria for peripheral trauma-induced movement to establish the cause-and-effect relationship, the severity of the injury, time course, and anatomic relationship must be taken into consideration.(4) We describe a patient with limb tremor following a direct peripheral nerve injury.
