Planning considerations for community integrative brain injury programs

Although significant references are available to guide administrators in clinical program development as it relates to residentially and nonresidentially based community integrative programs, little is available to guide new programs through the numerous administrative planning considerations that are unique to this service delivery. The primary purpose of this article is to discuss differences between administrative planning activities for community-based services and services provided in more traditional medically based settings. Key program planning considerations are discussed that account for the individual needs of those with brain injuries in a community-based environment. The thoughtful planning of these unique program attributes will assist programs in controlling startup costs while allowing them to serve all of the needs of the targeted population.
