10 Gbit/s all-optical 2R fiber based regeneration

摘要
The authors show simulations and experimental results about 2R regeneration obtained through a multiwave-mixing effect in a particular dispersion shifted optical fibre due to the Kerr nonlinearity. The higher order mixing products exhibit a step-like transfer function useful for reshaping use and a significant noise compression, in the case of a 10 Gbit/s noisy non-return-to zero data stream, is reported. The back-to-back and the transmission experiments, performed at this data-rate along an installed cable encompassing G.652, G.653 and G.655 fibres, confirm the capabilities of this device with both non-return-to-zero and return-to-zero formats and its compatibility with such different kind of installed fibres.
