摘要
After the 1945 political situation in Poland radically changed. New regime wanted to change the society with different means. One of them was architecture and art that was part of it. New art for a new society of working classes. The issue of rebuilding old-town centers devastated during the II World War has affected many cities of the post - war Poland. After brief period of socialist, sometimes almost totalitary art in the 50ties, modern forms appeared especially in the next decade. Also there style of rebuilding the cities destroyed during the war changed in the 60ties. Modernist architecture was adorned with artworks made in sgraffito technique, wall paintings, mosaiques and unique forms of stone and ceramic facades. The themes and motifs of the decoration on the facades of old town buildings, rebuilt after 1945, are highly diverse. Especially interesting was the period of the 60ties and 70ties during which new city councils (due to new administration division of the country) ordered many of such artworks in new, modern architecture of universities, houses of culture, cinemas, schools, hospitals, shops and restauraunts of socialist state. In that period propoganda was less intense and so applied art, which decorated the modernist architecture, was heading towards the abstract forms. Golden era of state mecenate for artists ended with collapse of socialist economy in the 80ties. Due to growing economical problems artists were usuing experimental materials, such as even industry waste, nevertheless almost all state founding seized to exist in the late 80ties. Nowadays those unique artworks with modern, afterwar architecture of the second half of the 20th century are threathened to be destroyed with modernist architecture which is replaced with new building. Only raising the social awarness could change that situation, because recent protect actions of modern architecture were organised due to social, local actions.
