From splendor to decadence. The Marquisate of Aguilar de Campoo at the end of the 16th century

The present study aims to highlight some of the possible approaches with which to know the deep crisis process that the marquisate of Aguilar de Campoo has undergone since the end of the 16th century. To this end, a set of very specific sources will be analysed. In the first place, the correspondence that the family nucleus of the Fifth Marquis deployed to try to obtain for its benefit the traditional perks of its lineage. And, secondly, the testament and the memorial of the Marquis's own debts, without any doubt, one of the most palpable signs of the decline of the House of Aguilar.
