摘要：
In "De cortico a cortico" Antonio Candido pointed a strong role of antilusitanistic ideology in the structure of Aluisio Azevedo's novel O cortico (The Slum). Our aim, in this paper, is to trace the limits of this interpretation of Candido. It's also our goal, inspired by a chronicle of Eca de Queiroz named "O brasileiro", to suggest new landmarks to understand the portuguese characters of this novel.
