摘要
Because of its high cell turnover rate the tissue of the small intestine provides a good basis for experimental research in cell biology. Computer models of this tissue system aim at investigating the underlying mechanisms of cell proliferation. To incorporate spatial aspects into models of the tissue we have developed a new generic 3-D computer simulation model. Within this 3-D model various aspects, such as the migration of cells and the formation of structures can be explored visually. Because the tissue is a mono-layer, special junctions between the cells have been imposed. Simulations show the development and the steady-state of a gland in the intestine. The results of the simulation can be viewed in an ordinary VRML-browser. This kind of presentation facilitates the collaboration of modeller and biologist.
