First observation of multiply charged vanadium clusters in a Penning trap

摘要
Singly charged vanadium cluster ions from an external laser-vaporization source are accumulated in a Penning trap, They are subjected to electron bombardment which leads to further ionization, The charge states produced are analyzed by time-of-flight mass spectrometry after axial ejection from the trap, The results include the observation of charge states up to z = 6 and indications for signals at z = 7 and 8. Clusters of a given charge state may be selected for further investigation adding a new dimension to future studies of stored cluster ions. (C) 1997 by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
