Post-stroke patients are at risk to develop chronic pain. Besides central post-stroke pain which originates in a central nervous lesion, those pain syndromes need attention which are caused by paresis or a developing spasticity, and the consequential motor disorder. The precise diagnosis of the pain syndrome is a prerequisite for a targeted therapy.
