摘要
A method is presented for the model creation and dynamic analysis of three-dimensional interlocking media, such as locked sands or dry stone walls, in DEM simulations. A new form of discrete element is developed for this purpose, based oil the concept of potential particles. A potential function is proposed for the modelling of spheres truncated by flats, and the mechanics of contacting particles is examined in some detail. In addition, Suggestions are made to improve the convergence of the solver and accuracy of the solution for the contact point. Finally, some examples are presented, including a simulation of interlocked particles in a periodic shearbox. Copyright (C) 2009 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
