The CCK scheme is often used in the 2.4-GHz-band DS-SS wireless LAN system, but the degradation of the transmission quality due to the noise emphasis is a problem, since a hard-decision decoding is applied to the decoding of information. As another aspect, few studies in the wireless LAN system have evaluated the co-channel interference characteristics considering the cell allocation. Consequently, this study intends to improve the quality of the wireless LAN system. The maximum-likelihood decoding is applied to MBOL system of spread code length 4, 8, and 16, and the proposed system using a spread code (code length 12). BER performance is evaluated. In addition, the spectrum efficiency is evaluated as dependent on the cell allocation, considering the interference characteristics. It is verified as a result of simulation that the system using the proposed spread code (code length 12, 16 kinds and minimum distance 6) is effective in terms of the BER performance and the spectrum efficiency.
