Diagnosis of EBV infection - Methods, problems and interpretation of results

摘要：
The diagnostic value of two tests (ELISA and IFA) to detect EBV infection was compared. The presence of specific IgM and IgG antibodies for different EBV antigens (VCA, EA, EBNA) was studied. Interpretation of EBV infection in both of the tests used was the same only in 20 samples out of 38 tested (52.63%). The discordance in results between ELISA and IFA concerned the frequency of antibody detection as well as their patterns. High number of discordant results was observed in detection of VCA-IgG and EA-IgG. These divergences were the reason for different interpretation of type of EBV infection (primary, past, reactivation of latent infection).
