Analysis of the relationship between the high-quality dwelling and standards

The paper is dealing with the relationship between standards, regulations, rules and quality of housing As the issue of quality could be assessed only on the subjective level, the role of the subject in the process of standardization, design, deliberation, evaluation is being analyzed. The housing quality level is depending on several factors. In Croatia this level is determined by inadequate housing fund, especially in larger cities, resulting in almost minimal standards. In the survey done amongst the students of architecture this is expressed in an idealization of living in a family house, in "idyllic, quieter, green parts of the city." The relationship between standards and high-quality dwelling is a continuing process. A real transformation is taking place when the dwelling is not only fulfilling its basic function of satisfying primary life necessities, but is instead being transformed into a place, a dwelling where the identity of each individual could be confirmed by offering him the possibilities of realizing his diversities.
