NATION AND IDENTITY TO THE VISUAL IMAGINARIES IN ARGENTINA AT 19th AND 20th CENTURIES

The construction of symbolic regards and itineraries referring on the "Nation" in Argentina begins in the years following the emancipation of the Rio de la Plata in 1810. The eyes of foreign and argentines artists will focus on the nineteenth century on representations of the Pampa, the indigenous and gaucho as symbols of identity, forming on imaginary that is updated in different contexts and using differents art languages in 19th and 20th century. Cosmopolitism and nationalism are two lines through which transmitted the positions, debates and visions on the Argentine identity, forging an hegemonic imaginary focused on what was produced and enshrined in Buenos Aires, with little or no participation from regional productions.
