PSO-based Performance Improvement of Distribution Systems Using DG Sources

摘要
This paper is aimed at proposing a method for determining optimum location and size of distributed-generation (DG) sources connected to a distribution system seeking its power-loss minimization and voltage-profile improvement. The "exact loss" formula is used to minimize the loss for each DG source added to the distribution system. This predicts the size and location of the added DG sources. The global optimum sizes of the DG sources at the predicted locations are determined using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique with subsequent saving of the time computational time. The proposed method showed less power loss when compared with other reported in the literature as regards the system losses. Single and multiple placements of DG sources in the distribution system are studied. The proposed method is applied to the IEEE 33-bus radial distribution system.
