Does size matter?

This paper aims to review the size of Turbines and the relative cost of installation of these for Offshore Wind Farm. Initially the paper will review the lifting capacity available from the types of plant that are currently in the North Sea. It will review the limitation that these types of plant have on the installation, and look in general terms at the magnitude of costs associated with these types of plant. It will then review the types of foundation available, beginning with those favoured for current wind turbines followed by other types that may be more applicable for larger turbines. Finally it will examine the installation methods used, and the effects larger turbines might have on these, aiming to review the limitations that might be presented, both in term of practical installation methods and costs.
