摘要
Regional economic development in Denmark over the past 150 years is outlined in order to illustrate where economic development has taken place and why, and whether there has been convergence or divergence and concentration or diffusion. Convergence is strengthened by mobility of the production factors and by trade. The catch-up theory also points into this direction. Conversely, structural shifts in the economy may lead to divergence and concentration Indications that there was such a shift towards the end of the 19th century no exist. During the greater part of the 20th century, then, convergence did prevail. The question is whether at the end of that century, Mie were again heading for a new, structural shift in the economy which will result in divergence and concentration.
