In this paper, an extensive investigation on the large displacement behavior of thin-walled curved beams was conducted theoretically. Based on, the fundamental assumptions of thin-walled structure and nonlinear analysis, the authors established a functional of variational principle of thin-walled curved beams with large deformation. By adopting the variational principle, a series of fundamental nonlinear equations and the boundary conditions describing the elastic behavior of thin-walled curved beams were derived. These. equations provided the bases for approximately calculation of large displacement theory on thin-walled curved beams. At the end of the paper, numerical studies have been conducted of in- and out-of-plane buckling analysis of curved beams by using FEM, and the obtained results were compared with other literature's values and the reason of disparity was discussed.
