Chemical transformation of diphenylamine in pyroxylin propellants

摘要
A vast experimental material available from the literature on the kinetics of chemical transformation of diphenylamine (DPA) in nitrocellulose-based (NC) propellants is analyzed. The temperature dependence of the DPA consumption rate is determined, it exhibits a bend toward higher greater rates at t < 70 degrees C. The decomposition rate of NC in the propellant is shown to be at least several times as high as the rate of its thermal decomposition. This phenomenon stems from the direct chemical interaction of nucleophilic DPA with NC. The mechanism of formation of the detected products is discussed. Recent publication on the subject [1] is criticized.
