摘要
Various materials have been used to prevent or minimize ridge collapse after tooth extraction in an attempt to improve implant placement. The bone graft material used for filling bone defects after tooth extraction is a controversial topic. This is especially so if there is an apical lesion at the site of the natural tooth. A patient who presented with a retained root and apical lesion was treated with bone grafting as a staged implant placement. Histological analysis of a biopsy done 6 months after grafting revealed good healing with mature bone. Histomorphometric evaluation showed 39.4% bony tissue. The implant that was installed was mainly in the regenerated area and the prosthesis was well in function up to 6 months. (Implant Dent 2010;19:307-313)
