Magnetic properties of Pr-T-X compounds (T = d-elements, X = Si, Ge)

摘要
The crystal electric field (CEF) effects lead to exotic behaviour in some of the Pr-compounds. Superconductivity in heavy fermion PrOs4Sb12 is mediated by quadrupolar fluctuations involving low lying crystal field excitations. In our search for novel and interesting Pr-compounds we have synthesized PrT2X2, PrTGe3 and Pr2T3Ge5 series of compounds. Some of these compounds order magnetically while others do not. We present highlights of our recent results on Pr-compounds. Notable among these are anomalously high T-N and strong magnetocrystalline anisotropy in PrRh2Si2, large magnetoresistance in Pr2Pd3Ge5 and excitonic mass enhancement in Pr2Rh3Ge5.
