摘要
Parthenium is a genus of North American shrubs in the sunflower tribe within the daisy family. In India, Parthenium or Gajar Ghans is the most common invasive species and is recognized as Congress grass. Parthenium hysterophorus contains a rich source of compounds possessing an a-methylene-c-lactone moiety responsible for various biological activities. The plant is known to cause allelopathic effects and is responsible for hay fever, contact dermatitis. Despite its detrimental effects, P. hysterophorus is widely used as a folk remedy against various infections for fever, diabetes, insomnia, skin inflammation, analgesic. The various methods involved in the isolation of parthenin have been developed by many researchers to get the pure product in the desired yield. The methods have been discussed in this paper are affordable, time-efficient, and obtain the product in a quantitative yield but still the requirement of efficient method is the need of an hour so, we had developed a efficient method for the extraction of parthenin in the purified form.
