摘要：
An information system to support IT management based on a commercial IT Asset Management System is described. The system collects information on desktop computers (and other IT equipment) with help of information gathering agents and presents results of analyses using a Web-based reporting tool. A sample set of obtainable results is presented and discussed regarding its relevance for operational and strategic IT management. The examples include analyses of the hardware and software inventory of individual working groups to determine budgets and eliminate operational risks, and they also cover some organization-wide evaluations of hardware and software availability for making strategic technological decisions. Finally, first results on time-based trend analyses of the software inventory are presented.
