摘要：
Terrain impacts on many GIS applications and processes. The impact is a result of terrain being an important explanatory variable in many applications, as well as terrain being readily available over the terrestrial Earth surface. The role of digital terrain models in GIS modelling is reviewed. Issues relating to the accuracy and quality control of GIS models, and particularly the role of digital terrain data in the models are raised.
