The relationship between job characteristics of advanced manufacturing technology, intrinsic job motivation and satisfaction: An empirical study

Advanced manufacturing technology (AMT) is important for gaining enterprises' competitive advantage and performance. But the influence of AMT implementation on employees' attitude is ambiguous. This paper interviewed 7 equipment manufacturing firms in the northeast of China, with Jackson and Wall's Job Characteristics Model. Results indicate that the relationships between timing control, method control, problem-solving demand and satisfaction are significant and positive, monitoring demand is negatively related to satisfaction, and there is no relationship between production responsibility and satisfaction. Intrinsic job motivation is positively related to satisfaction. The findings provide the basis for enterprises to improve satisfaction and performance by reasonable job design.
