Run-flat versus conventional tyres: an experimental and model based comparison

摘要
The differences between run-flat and conventional tyres are analysed for normal, i.e. inflated operating conditions. Four tyres of different brands are evaluated: two run-flat and two conventional tyres, having the same size (with one minor exception) and inflation pressure. Various tyre characteristics have been determined by means of experiments: vertical stiffness, lateral stiffness, cornering stiffness, relaxation length, contact length and enveloping behaviour. The results from the experiments have been incorporated in vehicle simulation models to evaluate the impact on ride comfort and vehicle handling performance.
