Football prediction: an overview of scientific production in brazilian journals

This work aims to evaluate the scientific production in brazilian journals regarding probabilistic models for prediction of football results. It is defined as a bibliographic research with specific searches made at CAPES - Portal de Periodicos and by Snowball methodology, summarizing just eight papers with 19 related authors. Data processing was divided into: i) bibliographic data analysis, regarding journals where papers were published, years of publication and authors data; ii) Analysis of the references, taking into account types of publication, temporal distribution and authors and papers most cited; iii) Social networks analysis of the citations, made through software UCINET integrated to NetDraw. Although the small number of papers founded, it was observed a relative increase in significance of this research line recently. Therefore, it was possible to describe the main characters of the scientific community, their formation areas and professionais links, as well as the formally established relationships between them. Moreover, another outcome is related to regional distribution of these authors over the country, contributing to a better knowledge of the research area. In addition to data made by all analyses, it is pointed to countless possibilities of advance and consolidation of this research area, both its potential concerning scientific communication and several education practices in dialogue with football and sports in general.
