Modeling and Optimization of Simulated Moving Bed Chromatography with Side Streams

摘要
Simulated moving bed (SMB) chromatography process is often considered to achieve high-purity separation performance in practice. However, conventional SMB process can only be applied to binary mixture system. This can be overcome by adding side-stream to the SMB process. This paper presents modeling and design of SMB process with side streams and its optimal operating condition to maximize the production of each stream. The model assumes the equilibrium and linear adsorption isotherm. The proposed process could successfully separate a ternary fluid mixture.
