Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) in an early form of prenatal diagnosis and an important method to the prevention of genetic diseases. We performed PGD in 13 patients, selected from an initial group of 19 undergoing in vitro fertilization, using FISH probes for chromosomes X, Y, 13, 16, 18 and 21. From a total of 50 biopsied cells, 23 embryos considered normal for the chromosomes tested were transfered and 10 patients presented positive beta HCG results, with 6 miscarriages. The transfer of embryos diagnosed as free from the most commom chromosome aberrations will improve implantation and pregnancy rates when this technique will be in the routine IVF protocols procedures.
