Sexuality and life-style of Japanese postmenopausal women

Increasing life expectancy of Japanese women provoked serious discussion on the quality of life in the postmenopause. Longevity made dramatic changes in the life-style during the period of life stage after menopause which is longer than 30 years. It is depicted that the reproductive health is one of the major factors influencing the sexuality. The social and domestic environments surrounding postmenopausal women also exhibit great impacts on the specific attitude of sexuality of Japanese women. The issue of sexuality should be included as an essential element in the approaches to establish the total health care for both women and men, as well as for the young and elderly.
