X-ray and radio observations of supernova remnants in NGC 300

We present the results of our search for candidate X-ray and radio supernova remnants (SNRs) in the nearby Sculptor Group Galaxy NGC 300. We have made radio observations of this galaxy using the Very Large Array at 6 cm and 20 cm and supplemented this data with archived ROSAT PSPC observations. We find that the majority of the optically-identified SNRs in this galaxy are not detected at the S-sigma level in either the X-ray or the radio, possibly indicating a bias effect in optical surveys that favors the detection of SNRs outside of HII regions. We have also prepared samples of candidate radio and X-ray SNRs in this galaxy. Our work has revealed sixteen new candidate X-ray and radio SNRs, complementing the 28 SNRs previously detected in this galaxy using optical methods and raising the total number of known SNRs in this galaxy to 44.
