Spray deposition of aerogels as a thermal insulation for the space shuttle fuel tanks

摘要
The NASA investigation regarding the last crash of the Space Shuttle discussed the loss of insulation of the fuel tank. A leading theory of the accident is that the foam insulation may have damaged the heat-protecting tiles during lift off and was enough to trigger a breach that caused the spaceship to break up with the loss of the Shuttle and lives. The insulation epoxy foam attached to the tank by hand depended on the quality of adhesive and premolded technological conditions. Instead of use epoxy resin on the top of external tank we change technology for spray deposition. The purpose of this paper is improve a quality of insulation form and limit a risk of break and slide-off pieces.
