10-year follow-up study of secondary transscleral ciliary sulcus fixated posterior chamber intraocular lenses

PURPOSE: To study the outcome of transscleral ciliary sulcus fixated posterior chamber intraocular lenses (transscleral fixation of PC IOLs) at 10 years after surgery. DESIGN: Longitudinal observational study. METHOD: A total of 16 patients (16 eyes) who had undergone transscleral fixation of PC IOL were studied. We evaluate the clinical outcome in each patient at 10 years after the operation. SETTING: The Department of Ophthalmology, University of Tokyo Graduate School of Medicine, Tokyo, Japan. RESULTS: Visual loss and other complications occurred within 2 years of the operation but not later. Postoperative complications were cystoid macular edema in three eyes (18.8%) and age,related macular degeneration in one eye (6.3%). CONCLUSION: It is important to carefully observe and adequately treat patients for 2 years postoperatively.
