Cyclotron resonance in PbSe/PbEuTe quantum dot crystals

摘要
We report on studies of cyclotron resonance in self-organized PbSe quantum dots islands in a PbEuTe matrix by using the single turn coil technique up to 150 T and a CO2 laser at wavelengths of 9.25 mum - 10.6 mum. In this experiment, sharp peaks appear at 80 T, that are not seen in a superlattice without dots. The effective mass that is calculated from the center of these peaks is equal to the heavier effective mass of bulk PbSe(111). We believe that these peaks are due to cyclotron resonance of electrons in the quantum dots. Electron states which are degenerate in the bulk system are split by some effect related to the confinement of electrons in the dots or to dot crystallization.
