Torque Ripple Compensation Control with Optimized Advanced Angle for Doubly Salient Electro-magnetic Machine

Due to the phase inductance, Doubly Salient Electro-magnetic Machine (DSEM) using traditional control method (Standard Angle Control) suffers from significant torque ripple during the period of commutation. This paper introduces a novel control method named torque ripple compensation control method with optimized advanced angle to suppress the torque ripple. To start with, basic equations are introduced and the cause of torque ripple is analyzed in detail. Based on the analysis, the new control method is presented. The advanced angle a and the reference current gain k are key parameters to achieve the proposed control method while a is used to prevent the produce of negative torque and k is used to compensate the torque reduced by a. In conclusion, simulation results based on Matlab/Simulink shows that with proposed control method the torque ripple during commutation period can be obviously compensated and achieve higher torque output.
