Changing memories. Holocaust memory in Hungary since 1945

The paper asks about the long time unattended memory of the Holocaust and examines the different forms of broaching the issues of the Holocaust in Hungary. Especially, I'm asking about the relevance of the Holocaust in the Hungarian memorial culture from 1945 until the opening of two museums in Budapest at the beginning of the 21(st) century, of the House of Terror and the Holocaust Memorial Center. In doing so, in particular I try to outline the divergent appraisal of the years between 1920 and 1945 and analyse three different levels of dealing with the past: the level of the official state memory, the level of the Jewish memory and the level of the public memory. Analysing these layers it attracts attention that the Holocaust was cleared differently.
