摘要
Defining disability is a challenge in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Little is known about frequency and severity of disability in IBD; however, a significant portion of IBD patients file for disability at some time or are considered disabled. A standardized tool has been created recently that may aid evaluation of disability for these patients. Predictive factors and an overview of the disability landscape in the United States are provided. Various constituencies have an interest in how disability is defined, and the definition may influence understanding of the disease and its treatment and have significant consequences for patients with IBD.
